A lack of sleep negatively affect daily life
A lack of sleep can negatively impact memory, mood, attention, reaction time, as well as mental and physical health
Memory, mood, attention/reaction time and health are all aspects that significantly affect functioning in daily life.
Think about the last time you didn’t get enough sleep - you likely didn’t function as optimally as you would like; your child(ren) and/or partner aren’t able to function optimally without enough sleep either.
In the short term, a lack of sleep can result in an off day but a lack of sleep over the longer term has increasingly detrimental effects. Without getting into specifics about the negative impacts of inadequate sleep (for now), becoming aware that a lack of sleep negatively affects memory, mood, attention/reactions and health (mental and physical) is the first step in recognizing the need to make changes to improve sleep.
No matter what age or stage of life, a lack of sleep has negative impacts -and- the flip side of that is that improving sleep has positive impacts on our lives.
